SUBSEA FLEX JOINT REPAIR & RE-CERTIFICATION

A combination Flex Joint-Riser Adaptor from one of the MODU’s currently drilling off the WA north west coast was recently received at WPF for replacement of the Flex Joint section of the assembly.
WPF’s scope of work included:
- Receipt new Flex Joint and hydro test.
- Receipt existing Flex Joint-Riser Adapter assembly and remove P-line test / handling tool.
- Disassemble Choke, Kill, Hydraulic Kick-outs and Booster line assy.
- Cut off existing Flex Joint and re-machine weld prep onto Riser Adapter section.
- Setup and weld new Flex Element to Riser Adapter
- Post Weld Heat Treatment and NDT of new weld while taking precautions to limit temperature of rubber flex element.
- Clean and visual inspection of Choke, Kill and Hydraulic line Kick-outs and Booster line assembly
- Assemble Flex Joint-Riser Adapter as per client procedure using new fasteners throughout.
- Prepare Flex Joint-Riser Adapter assembly, Choke, Kill and Hydraulic line Kick-outs and Booster line assembly for blast and paint.
- Blast & Paint Flex Joint-Riser Adapter assembly, Choke, Kill and Hydraulic line Kick-outs and Booster line assembly to client subsea paint specifications.
- Assemble Choke, Kill and Hydraulic line kickouts and booster line assemblies onto the Flex Joint-Riser Adapter.
- Trial fit P-line test / handling tool to the Flex Joint-Riser Adapter.
- Protect and prepare entire assembly for transport and load out.
- Pack old flex joint onto pallet and load out.
- Compile and submit QA documentation.
